Patricia Dold is an Associate Professor in the
Department of Religious Studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland and
Labrador where she has been teaching courses on religions of the world,
religions and violence, gender and religion, Sanskrit, and Hindu and Buddhist
traditions since 2004. Prior to taking up her position at Memorial, she
taught on limited term contracts at the University of Calgary and the
University of Alberta from 1991-2004. Her training and research has included 3
field-trips to India, and in particular at the temple and pilgrimage site of
the Goddess Kamakhya in Assam.
Her publications and special journal issues are
focussed primarily on the Goddess-centered texts, sites, and festivals within
Hindu religious traditions. Her current professional concerns include defending
intellectual freedom as the core of the modern university actively engaging
with decolonization and anti-racism in scholarship and teaching.
